2. According to a legend Mir castle was built by some mysterious giants in ВС times. The experts can not agree on the date when it happened. Some are convinced it was in 1506, other think it was in 1495-1500, the rest mention the period of 1522-1526. Lithuanian chronicles prove the last version. Some peculiarities of the architectural point to the fact that the building was not founded earlier than 1510. One another detail helps to identify the time when the castle was built.

3. The language of medieval decorations is difficult to understand now. No one can explain the appearance of a sheep head on the wall of the castle. Maybe it was a wish of the landlord to have a magic talisman or just biblical image of a lamb. There are some suppositions on Juri lljinitch's to build Mir castle. 6. Later, the property passed over to many counts and princes. Since 1891, Svyatopolk-Minski counts owned the castle. Their family name and the name of the castle is just a mere coincidence. New owners created a palace-and-park ensemble in classical traditions. Even, now you can find two maple avenues. The main structural and picturesque component of the landscape was a large water reservoir with and island. In 1904, the park was completed with the burial chapel, with a bell-tower and a colorful mosaic panel. Close to the panel there was a board with symbols of the four oldest Russian cities: Kiev, Novgorod, Pskov, Moscow. The symbols might have emphasized how old and noble the family was.

7. After the fire in 1914, the castle was not restored, and the last prince from the family lived in the old castle till 1939. The first reconstruction works started in 1983 and 10 years later the first museum halls were opened for the public. At present, the reconstruction works have been completed. Mir castle is one of the four World Heritage Sites in Belarus.
