6. The historic past of Belarus is more tragic than that of Great Britain because Belarus was invaded more times, and had more wars on its territory. Since 16 century it was dominated by other states: Poland, Russia, Soviet Union, while Great Britain was one of the most powerful states. 7.1 agree with the statement. Weapons should be banned. They bring only harm. And if there were no weapons to fight, the weapons to protect yourselves wouldn't be necessary too.

Ex. 3. Скажите, что вы знаете о том, как менялся английский язык в связи с завоеваниями Великобритании. Опишите завоевания на территории Великобритании.

The Romans were the first invaders of the territory of Great Britain. They brought their language — Latin—with them. Today in English there are many words that have Latin origin. Then Angles and Saxons came. The Angles and Saxons were from Germany and spoke Germanic languages. Some of the Germanic words stayed in the English language. Today we can find many similarities between the English and the German languages. And finally the Normans invaded the British Isles. The Normans spoke French and for 300 years French was the most important language in Great Britain. Slowly the English language changed and a lot of French words were added. Today most words in modern English connected with fighting, hunting, religion, art and cooking come from French.

Ex. 4. Назовите три места на территории Беларуси и опишите исторические события, связанные с ними.

1. First of all, I would like to tell you about Khatyn memorial which is situated 54 km from Minsk. Khatyn is a village burnt with its inhabitants (149 people including 75 children) by the fascists in 1943. But Khatyn was not the only village with such a horrible fate. The inhabitants of 618 Belarusian villages were burnt alive during the Great Patriotic War. 185 of the villages have never been reconstructed again.

The memorial is created to commemorate the tragic fate of all the burned villages. It was open in 1969. The memorial has 26 symbolic chimneys with bells. They create an image of a burned village. Only brick chimneys were left when Nazis had burnt houses of Belarusian villages. Every hour the bells of Khatyn ring to remind us about the horrible times. There is a sculpture of the only survivor of Khatyn—Josef Kaminski. He was away from the village and when he returned, the village had been burnt. The entire population of the village was gathered in a single wooden barn. First people didn't understand the plan of the fascists. But when they smelled kerosene and saw the flames the panic broke out inside the barn. People were throwing children into the tall windows of the barn hoping that they will have some chance at escape. The fascists have surrounded the barn in a ring and were shooting everyone jumping out of the windows of the burning bam. Kaminski's son was shot this way too. Kaminski is shown in the sculpture in a deep grief of a father holding the lifeless body of his son amidst the bare chimneys of his burned village, his burned family, neighbors and entire life.
